Rams Roll Past Anna Maria In GNAC Action

Boston, MA -- The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team scored a season-high 89 points to roll to victory over the Anna Maria College AMCATS on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The Rams were victorious 89-32 to improve to a 16-7 overall mark on the season, while they now own a 9-3 record in GNAC play.

Senior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) led all scorers with 17 points in the contest, while the Suffolk defense forced 35 turnovers in the game.

Senior Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) had a team-high 12 points for the AMCATS who now drop to 5-18 on the year. Sophomore Kayla Cummings (Auburn, Me.) added eight points on 3-for-4 shooting from the field.

The Rams came out with a 25-6 run in the opening seven minutes of play as they took a 53-17 lead into the half. Anna Maria was only able to connect on five field goals as a team in the opening twenty minutes of play as they committed more turnovers than points scored, handing the ball over 21 times.

Senior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) scored all 13 of her points in the first half, highlighted by a 3-for-5 performance from the three-point land.

Suffolk collected 42 points in the game off turnovers as they were given a spark off the bench by sophomore Marisa Cataldo (Stoneham, Mass.) who had seven points, five rebounds and four steals in 21 minutes.

Junior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) scored 14 points and added six assists for Suffolk as all eleven Rams' players who entered the game managed to score at least one field-goal in the contest.

Anna Maria will be back in GNAC action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Mount Ida College to take on the Mustangs at 6:00pm.
