MONKS March Past AMCATS

PAXTON, Mass. – Led by Megan McDevitt's (Cumberland, Maine) 23 points, the St. Joseph's College women's basketball team defeated Anna Maria College 71-58, at The Fuller Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Monks remain undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action improving to 15-6 (9-0 GNAC) while the AMCATS drop to 5-16 (1-8 GNAC) on the season.

Leading the way for the AMCATS was Chelsea Blair (Holland, Mass.) with a team high 15 points and nine rebounds, while Sam Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) added 12 points, nine rebounds and 3 assists.

Also playing well for the visitors was Allie Parent (Camden, Maine), who with her third assist of the day topped the 300 assist milestone, while Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine.) scored 14 points off the bench.

The AMCATS opened up the game with an Ashton layup and a 2-0 lead for their only lead of the game. The Monks quickly tied the game and then went on a 10-2 run to hold a 10-4 lead at the 11:15 mark of the first half. Another Ashton basket and Anna Maria had trimmed the lead to 4 points but that was as close as AMC could get in the half and Monks took a 32-19 advantage into the locker room.

Sam Ashton had 8 point and 6 rebounds and Chelsea Blair had 6 points and 5 rebounds to lead AMC in the half. Megan McDevitt had 7 points in the half for Saint Joseph's. The Monks out shot AMC 50% to 28% from the field, Anna Maria held the rebounding edge 23-14.

The AMCATS battled back in the second half to cut the lead to 37-28 after a Blair three point play with fifteen minutes left to play. The Monks responded with a 23-11 run, to put the game out of reach, and a 60-39 lead with seven minutes remaining.

The AMCATS return to action on Tuesday night when they will host St. Joseph (CT) on senior night.
