Cadets March Past Lady AMCATS

Northfield, VT – Senior Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) and Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) combined for 26 points but it wasn't enough as the visiting Anna Maria AMCATS were downed by Norwich University 83-62 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference woman's basketball action Thursday at Andrew Gymnasium.

With the win the Cadets improved to 7-12 overall and 2-5 (GNAC) while the AMCATS drop to 5-13 (1-6 GNAC) on the season.  Aliah Curry led the Norwich attack with her 14th straight double-digit scoring effort netting 23 points. Senior forward Tara Stevenson (Watertown, Conn.) added a season-high 17 points while sophomore guard Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.) chipped in 14 points to go with a game-high six assists.

Ashton had the games only double-double pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists to go with her 13 points. Pryor had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 28 minutes of work. Sophomore guard Liz Sama (Windsor, Conn.) came off the bench and contributed 9 points on 3-for-6 shooting from the 3-point arc.

Norwich University opened the second half with a 9-0 run en route to the conference victory.  Freshman guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to spark the rally with senior forward Jessalyn Sweeney (Standfordville, N.Y.) adding a three as well.

The AMCATS return to action on Saturday when they host Lasell in GNAC play at 1:00 pm.
