Saints take conference match-up from AMCATS

PAXTON, Mass. – Led by Liz Daley's (Sharon, Mass.) game-high 11 point, 5 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench the Emmanuel Saints women's basketball team defeated Anna Maria College 66-43, at The Fuller Activities Center on Wednesday night. With the win the Saints remain undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action improving to 11-4 (5-0 GNAC) while the loss drops the AMCATS to 5-11 (1-4 GNAC).

In addition to Daley's performance, Meghan Kirwan (Melrose, Mass.) contributed 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Chenae Earle (South Orange, NJ) paced the Saints with 7 rebounds.

The AMCATS were led by Alison McCarthy's (Lynn, Mass.) team high nine points on 3-for-5 shooting from three point land and Chelsea Blair who pulled down 9 rebounds.

Emmanuel led from start to finish in the contest quickly opening up a six point lead 11-5 after a good jumper by Lena Negri (Arlington, VA). After a Blair jumper the AMCATS cut the lead to 4 points at the 15:50 mark but the Saints responded with another big run outscoring AMC 29-14 to take a commanding 40-21 lead into the locker room. EC shot 47% from the field in the half while Anna Maria could only muster 24% shooting. Twenty-four of EC's first half points were scored in the paint.

Anna Maria opened up the second half with a 7-3 run with two baskets by Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) and trey by Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 15 points with 17:33 remaining but the Saint's proved to be too strong in all departments rapidly building the lead back to 20 points to close out the win.

 Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC match-up starting at 1:00pm, the Saints also tip-off again on Saturday when they host Emerson at 1:00 pm
