PAXTON, Mass. – (12.08.11) Anna Maria College senior Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) scored her 1000th point while four total AMCATS poured in double figures as AMC rolled to a 81-55 victory over Becker in non-conference action Thursday night at Fuller Activities Center. With the win Anna Maria climbs to 4-4 while the Hawks remain winless at 0-7.
Chelsea Blair (Holland, Mass.) led the AMCAT offense with a double-double, contributing 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with 14 points, five rebounds and six assists. Samantha Ashton added a game-high 16 points, including her aformentioned 1000th point on the first bucket of the game, while Kayla Cummings (Auburn, Mass.) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points of her own.
Tatiana Mojica (Worcester, Mass.) and Kristina Desnoyers (Adams, Mass.) led the Becker attack, as both nearly missed a double-double. Mojica added a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds while Desnoyers chipped in with nine points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
The AMCATS jumped out to a sizeable 23-5 lead in the first ten minutes of play and never looked back. Anna Maria entered half-time with a 43-25 advantage behind the strong play of Chelsea Blair. Blair scored a double-double for the half while Ashton added a half-high 12 points.
Tatiana Mojica did her best to counter the Blair-Ashton duo by netting 10 first-half points of her own. Desnoyers also rebounded well in for the Hawks, adding ten first-half boards.
Becker used a 10-1 run early in the second-half to cut the AMCAT advantage to 55-41, however, Katie Pryor's strong 2nd-half thwarted any further comeback attempts by the Hawks, sealing the 81-55 victory.
Pryor was phenominal in the second-half, adding a half-high 12 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting, while adding three rebounds and three assists.
Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Salem State for a 1pm tip-off. Becker is back on the court on Saturday when the host Newbury at 1pm.
