Breen Sets School Record for Shutouts in 2-0 Win against Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) made six saves and became the all-time leader in shutouts to aid the Anna Maria College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday evening at Swenson Field.

Breen's shutout was the 10th of her career. She had been tied at nine with previous record-holder Rachel Braier since last season, but with tonight's result she takes sole possession of the top slot. Tonight's win also marked the fourth on the season for Breen.

Junior midfielder Kyle Dalbec (Portland, Maine) broke open a scoreless tie in the 60th minute and senior forward Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) added an insurance marker in the 63rd minute for the AMCATS who even their season record at 6-6. The host Bears slip to 4-6 on the year with the loss.

Dalbec ripped a shot from directly in front of the net into a wide open right side with 10:20 left in regulation.  The scoring strike, her team-leading 12th of the season, came off an assist from sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.).

Less than three minutes later, Lowe converted a long crossing pass from junior forward Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) tucking a shot inside the left post.

Sophomore Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) played well between the pipes for the Bears in the setback as she made a number of impressive saves to keep the game within reach. Allahyarian finished with seven stops on the evening.

Anna Maria held an 11-9 shot advantage for the game, while Bridgewater finished with a decided 14-4 edge in penalty corners.

The Bears travel to Worcester State University on Saturday morning for an 11 o'clock Little East Conference game with the Lancers.  The AMCATS host Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Saint Joseph's College on Saturday evening at six.
