Field Hockey Falls to Worcester State, 5-2

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State University on Thursday evening in non-conference action.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 2-3, while the win evens the Lancers' record to 2-2.

The AMCATS struck first and needed just 1:26 of game time before Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) netted her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.).

The Lancers evened the score seven minute later on a goal by Bridget Gills, and took a 2-1 lead in the 14th minute on a Katelyn Abber goal.

With just under 10 minutes left to play in the first half, Anna Maria's Kayla Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) netted a goal from the top of the circle following a penalty corner. The two teams entered halftime deadlocked at 2-2.

The second half was all Worcester State, as the Lancers recorded goals in the 35th, 38th, and 47th minutes. Gills netted her second tally of the day first, followed by an unassisted goal from Julie O'Rourke and a goal from Erika Lepkowski.

Anna Maria goaltender Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded five saves for the AMCATS, who were outshot 13-4 on the evening. The Lancers also held a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.
