AMCATS Score Twice in First Half in 2-1 Win against Framingham State

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team needed just two first-half goals to edge the visiting Rams of Framingham State University on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action from AMCAT Field.

The win marks the second-straight for the AMCATS, who improve to 4-4, while the loss drops the Rams to 2-3.

Junior Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) put the AMCATS on the board in the sixth minute, as she and teammate Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) had a two-on-one breakaway. Lowe beat her defender, drew out Rams goaltender Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.), and swiftly passed to Dalbec, who settled the ball and then buried her eighth goal of the season.

Nearly 20 minutes later Lowe got on the board herself off a pass in traffic by Kayla Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.). Carczynski collected the ball off of a penalty corner taken by Lowe, and fed it back to her as she was streaking in from the corner. 

The AMCATS carried the 2-0 lead into the second half. In the 57^th minute, the Rams scored off a penalty corner that was scored in similar fashion to the AMCATS second goal. Junior Shannon O'Malley (Worcester, Mass.), took the corner and passed it to teammate Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.), who passed to back to O'Malley positioned at the post.

Anna Maria goaltender Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded five saves in the win, while Talbot totaled six saves in net for the Rams. The AMCATS outshot Framingham State 14-9 on the afternoon and held an 8-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The AMCATS will return to action on Saturday when they host Simmons College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
