Field Hockey Charges Past Colby-Sawyer, 2-0, in Season Opener

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team downed the visiting Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College by a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless play, senior forward Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) netted her first goal of 2014 off a pass by freshman forward Danielle Schilowski (Upton, Mass.). The AMCATS would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Two-minutes and 28 seconds into the second half, junior forward Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) found classmate Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) open, and the two teamed up to put Anna Maria up 2-0.

Dalbec took a team-high 10 shots on the afternoon, four of which were on net. Lowe chipped in with six shots, while Lapierre finished the afternoon with five. The AMCATS outshot the Chargers 32-11 on the afternoon and held a 17-8 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Anna Maria junior netminder Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) totaed four saves in just over 65 minutes of action before giving way to freshman Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.), who recorded three saves to complete the shutout.

Colby-Sawyer goaltender Jodi Dumayne recorded 14 saves for the Chargers.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday, September 2nd as they travel to Wheaton College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
