AMCATS Fall to Huskies on Dig Pink Night

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College freshman Michelle Connolly (Quincy, Mass.) registered a game-high 16 digs in a 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 27-25) loss to the University of Southern Maine in non-conference women's volleyball action on DIG PINK NIGHT at Fuller Activities Center.  With the win the Huskies move to 19-7 overall, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 9-12 on the season.

Joining Connolly with double figure digs, freshman Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, NK) posted 12 digs from the back line. Junior Kayla Cummings (Auburn, Maine) led the AMCAT offense with four kills, two digs and a block assist. Sophomore Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) had a solid night tallying 12 assists and two kills.

Trailing 2-0, the AMCATS best effort of the night was the third game. Southern Maine quietly took a 3-0 lead to open the scoring. Anna Maria would capitalize on an USM serving error and a block by Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) to cut the lead to 3-2. Behind the serving of Kelsey Abramson Southern Maine would push to an 11-6 lead. Anna Maria would respond with three straight points off back-to-back kills by Goulet and Brianna LaRegina (Troy, NY) topped with an Alex Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) service ace and it was a 16-14 ballgame.

Down 21-16, Coach Shomo would call a timeout to re-group her players. Anna Maria responded with a 9-3 run capped by a USM defensive miscue to hold a 25-24 advantage. However it wasn't enough as USM would reel off three straight points for the 27-25 victory.

Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday October 24th when they host the University of Saint Joseph at 7:00pm.
