Volleyball: Lady AMCATS Sweep Curry College, 3-0

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College used a balanced attack to post their sixth win of the season with a straight set victory (25-21, 25-17, 27-25) over visiting Curry College in non-conference women's volleyball contest on Tuesday night at Fuller Activities Center.

With the loss Curry dips to 4-7 on the season, while the AMCATS move to two games over .500 at 6-4.

Senior Alex Rodriquez (Puerto Rico) tallied 7 kills, 4 digs and 3 assists to fill the stat sheet for the home team, while sophomore Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) totaled twenty helpers. Freshman Michelle Connolly (Quincy, Mass.) had a great game on the backline posting nine digs and sophomore Emily Adriaansen (Pepperell, Mass.) had her hand in five blocks on the evening.

The visitors were led by Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) and Nichole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) who combined for 26 kills. Junior Hannah Robison (Cumberland, RI) dished out 20 assists and defensive specialist Lauren Gaffney (Wallingford, Conn) had a game-high 13 digs.

Game one saw the AMCATS in a tough battle with the Colonels as the teams split the game's first 16 points.  Anna Maria would push the lead to 16-12 but Curry would convert a 6-1 run to take an 18-17 lead. Five points later the game would be tied at 20-all. Anna Maria would close out the match capitalizing on Curry's defensive mistakes and take set one 25-21.

Anna Maria went on to capture the second set by a 25-17 margin setting them up for the third set sweep.

Curry would not go down without a fight and jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the third set. Anna Maria came back, tying it at 10-all with a kill from Sam Parker. It remained a back-and-fourth game and Curry would hold a 24-22 lead late into the set, but the Colonels couldn't close out the match as Anna Maria outscored Curry 5-1 for the 27-25 win.

Anna Maria returns to action on Monday, September 23rd when they travel to Lesley University for an 8:00pm non-conference match-up.
