AMCATS Drop First GNAC Match-up

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emerson Men's Basketball Team pulled off a 56-52 win to open GNAC action against Anna Maria. With the win the Lions are now 3-3 on the year and 1-0 in the GNAC while the AMCATS fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Anna Maria was led by senior Anthony Click's 18 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists; while teammate Brad Peterson added 14 points and a team high 7 rebounds. Freshman Tyler Delorey added 11 points off the bench.

The first half saw both teams come out sluggish as it took about three minutes before the AMCATS finally scratched onto the board and edged away with a 5-0 lead. EC started to click back into gear though as they fired back with seven straight points to snake the lead.

Michael Thorpe led the Lion offense in the first half as he put up 14 points and picked up three steals to help EC take the edge with seven points off turnovers. The Lions also played scrappy on the boards, with four offensive rebounds for five second chance points as Emerson went into the break up 27-19.

The AMCATS came out in the second half to make a game of it though, shutting down Thorpe only to see Tyson Hallowell step up for the Lions with 11 points while Jon Goldberg jumped in for 10 as well with two steals as well.

The Emerson defense came up big again in the half with eight points off turnovers as the AMCATS kept chipping away, whittling EC's lead to three at one point. The Lions shot 7-for-11 from the line though putting the game just far enough out of Anna Maria's grasp for the 56-52 win.

The Lions will hit the road next as they travel to Lasell on December 6 for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Lasers in Newton, Mass.
