National Players of the Week
PAXTON, Mass. – After an outstanding week, Sophomore Jeff Scafidi (Worcester, Mass.) who had already been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday, was selected as the NCAA Division III National Player of the Week, as voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Scafidi compiled a .750 batting average, going 15-for-20 while collecting at least two hits and one RBI in all six contests. He helped lead the AMCATS to a 5-1 record with eight runs scored and an impressive 16 runs batted in. Scafidi had three consecutive three-hit games and drove in four runs on three separate occasions. He pounded-out six extra-base hits, including four doubles and two triples, to compile a superb 1.150 slugging percentage. Some of his best performances include six hits and eight RBI's in a doubleheader sweep of Norwich, five hits and two RBI's in a TCCC split with Gordon, and four hits and six RBI's in a TCCC sweep of Colby-Sawyer. In addition to his dominance at the plate, Scafidi also excelled on the mound, tossing a three-hit complete-game shutout versus Colby-Sawyer in which he struck out nine batters. After his terrific week, Scafidi is currently leading The Commonwealth Coast Conference in batting average (.517), slugging percentage (.879), hits (30), runs batted in (29), doubles (8), triples (5), and total bases (51). The sophomore has the team off to a 12-6 (6-4 TCCC) record this season, including a current five-game winning streak in conference play. Scafidi and the AMCATS will be back in action on Monday when they host Fitchburg State in a non-conference matchup at 3:30 pm.
