Scafidi honored as D3 Preseason All-American

PAXTON, Mass. – Anna Maria College junior Jeff Scafidi (Worcester, Mass.) was selected as an Honorable Mention member of the 2011 D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Team which was announced on Wednesday afternoon. Scafidi has compiled an 1.122 OPS during his first two seasons with the AMCATS, while setting the program's single season records for hits, doubles, triples, total bases, and runs batted in. He finished a stellar sophomore campaign with a .764 slugging percentage and .535 on-base percentage while being selected as a member of the All-TCCC First Team and the 2010 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III All-New England Second Team. The sophomore outfielder was even selected as the National Player of the Week on April 1, 2010 after compiling a .750 batting average, 1.150 slugging percentage, and 16 runs batted in during a six-game week, while also throwing a complete-game shutout. Scafidi returns for his junior season after leading the AMCATS to a program-record 21 wins and the team's first-ever trip to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in 2010. With Anna Maria returning every member of both their starting lineup and starting rotation in 2011, the AMCATS appear poised for a serious run at the Conference Championship.
