Saints Slip By AMCATS on Senior Night

PAXTON, MA – The Emerson Lions cut through the heavy mist and the Lady AMCAT's defense, pulling out a 6-1 victory in tonight's GNAC Conference women's soccer match on Senior Night at AMCAT Field.

The AMCATS drop to 2-13 after this game. The Lions improve 8-4-3 on the season.

The three seniors on the AMCAT squad including, Tabitha Ruggeri (Palmer, Mass.), Erica Neugarten (Natick, Mass.) and Joanne Riches (Paxton, Mass.) were honored prior to the start of the contest.
Lions' freshman forward Christine White (Snohomish, WA) was on the right end of a cross from freshman midfielder Costanza Prandoni (Bedminister, NJ), giving Emerson the first point on the scoreboard in the 6th minute of the match. Mollie Coyne (Hamilton, NJ), a freshman midfielder, picked up an assist when she delivered a pass to freshman defender Samantha O'Donovan, who spun 180 degrees to take the shot.
The Anna Maria Women's Soccer team closed out the first half of play with a goal from freshman midfielder Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, MA). Tabitha Ruggeri (Palmer, MA), a senior midfielder, made a miraculous pass to pick up an assist even though she was falling after slipping on the wet turf.
Emerson dominated the second half, scoring 3 goals. Christine White picked up her second goal of the match, assisted by senior midfielder Elizabeth Corti (Blue Bell, PA). Corti picked up another assist soon thereafter, this time with Jenna LoSavio (Rumson, NJ), a junior forward, on the scoring end. Sophomore forward Jamie Toscano (Smithtown, NY) scored the final goal of the match, giving the Lions a 6-1 victory over the AMCATS.
Despite letting up 6 goals, the Lady AMCATS' freshman goalkeeper Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, MA) had an impressive showing tonight. Of the Lions' 21 shots on goal, Benvenuti stopped 15 of them from finding the back of the net.
The AMCATS return to the field to take on Suffolk in Boston, MA at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, the 24th of October.
