Lady AMCATS clipped by Falcons

Paxton, Mass – Albertus Magnus College used seven different scorers en route to a 7-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer victory over host Anna Maria College on a brisk Wednesday afternoon at AMCAT Field. With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-1-1 (2-0-1 GNAC) while the AMCATS drop to 1-7 (0-4 GNAC) on the season.

Anna Maria goaltender Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, Mass.) turned away 22 shots and senior Erica Neugarten (Natick, Mass.) collected the only shot of the day for the AMCATS.

AMC topped the scoreboard at the four minute mark when senior Kelly Marchiitto (West Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net on a beautiful cross from a streaking Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) down the right wing.  Figueroa made it 2-0 just a minute later with an unassisted score.

Juniors Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.), Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) and freshman Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) netted goals to round out the first half giving Albertus a 5-0 advantage.

Albertus added two second half goals for the 7-0 final.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Norwich University for a GNAC conference match-up starting 1:00 pm. Albertus Magnus, also in action on Saturday, travel to in-state rival St. Joseph University for a GNAC tilt at 1:00pm.
