LADY AMCAT SOCCER DROPS SEASON OPENER, 5-0

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's soccer team dropped their season opening match to visiting Southern Vermont College 5-0 at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon.

Southern Vermont received a hat trick from Kaitlyn Forant (Hardwick, VT) while Erin Student picked up her first of the season.  Anna Mara's Rachel Kniager (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) had the loan shots for the AMCATS on the day.

Freshman Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, Mass.) had 6 saves in the loss for Anna Maria. Playing well in the backfield for the AMCATS were Turley, senior Joanne Riche (Paxton, Mass.), and a pair of freshman Kaitlyn O'Shea-Rabbett (Worcester, Mass.) and Jennifer Scudder (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

Erin Student picked up the games' first goal twelve minutes into the first half, after passing one AMCAT defender she deposited the ball in the upper right corner, for the 1-0 lead.

Forant scored her natural hat trick over a thirteen minute span to finish the opening stanza. Junior Jocelyn Ortega (Chula Vista, Cali) crossed a center ball for the first tally, while her second and third goals were off unassisted drives from down the left wing.

The AMCATS return to action on Tuesday when they host Wheelock College at 6:00pm.
