Riches Tabbed Women's Soccer Captain

PAXTON, Mass.  – Senior Joanne Riches has been named the 2012 Anna Maria women's soccer captain as announced by first year head coach Michael Schroeder on Friday. The four-year starter will lead the AMCATS, who look to be competitive in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this season.

"Joanne has been the ultimate team leader since I arrived on campus.  She provides a great example for the younger players in terms of skill, fitness, and work rate," said Schroeder. "All of our players and coaching staff have the utmost respect for Joanne.  Her dedication to the team and sport make her the ideal team captain.  I am very happy that she will be leading our team as captain for the 2012 season."

The midfielder has more than 50 games under her belt for the AMCATS. After enduring through two winless seasons on the pitch, the Paxton native looks to help turn the program around, "We are working hard to make this a very successful and enjoyable season," Riches said.  "I am honored to be named the captain of the Anna Maria women's soccer team."

The Lady 'Cats kick off the regular season on Saturday, September 1 when they host Southern Vermont at 1:30 pm at AMCAT Field. Follow Anna Maria women's soccer on Twitter for complete team coverage.
