Men's Lacrosse Earns GNAC Weekly Honors

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria's senior attackman Mike Saulnier has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's men's lacrosse Player of the Week, while teammate Joshua Smith has earned GNAC Rookie of the Week status and netminder Andrew Ellis has been listed on the GNAC Honor Roll.

GNAC Player of the Week

Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.) In a 2-1 (2-0 GNAC) week for the AMCATS Saulnier scored 10 goals and added 2 assists for a 12 point week. In a 12-11 loss to Nichols the senior had 2 goals and an assist, versus Norwich on the road Saulnier contributed a hat trick and on Senior Day hosting Emerson he tallied a season-high 6 points (5 goals, 1 assist).

GNAC Rookie of the Week

Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass.) Smith notched 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) on the week. The Rookie had 5 points (2g, 2a) in a 12-11 loss to Nichols College and 2 assists in an 8-7 upset win over Norwich. In the season finale vs. Emerson, Smith poured in a career-high 8 points while he was almost a perfect 17-for-18 in the face-off circle. On the week he was a terrific 29-of-42 in the circle.

GNAC Honorable Mention

Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) was 2-1 (2-0 GNAC) on the week for the AMCATS with a 7.67 goals against average. The keeper made 10 saves in a close 12-11 loss vs. Nichols. In a GNAC Classic vs. Norwich Ellis backboned the AMCATS to an 8-7 win making a stunning 13 saves. Elis picked up his second win of the week making 4 saves in a 19-4 win over Emerson in the AMCATS season finale.

Men's lacrosse returns to action on Wednesday night when they host Becker College in a GNAC Quartfinal game starting at 7:00 pm.
