Lacrosse Comes From Behind For GNAC Win

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's Lacrosse Team suffered a tough 9-7 loss to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field.  The AMCATS overcame a two-goal deficit at halftime to come from behind and take the win, improving to 7-6 on the season and 4-3 in the league. The Saints drop to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in GNAC games with the conference loss.

The defensive battle opened with the visitors going up 2-0 in the early going, backed by unassisted goals from Brad Peterson (N. Kingstown, R.I.) and Jason Baker (Billerica, Mass.).  The Saints then responded with a string of three unanswered goals of their own.  The run was sparked by junior midfielder Ted Dimando (Hampstead, N.H.) scoring off a pass from Jake Pickett (Stratham, N.H.).  Freshman attackman Evan Dolber (Malden, Mass.) netted a shot off an assist from John Kearns (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and Thy followed with an assist coming via Josh Condry (Upton, Mass.).

With the Saints holding a 3-2 edge, Baker netted his second of four goals on the day, knotting the game at 3-all to end the first period.

Sophomore captain Brian O'Regan (Milton, Mass.) found the back of the net with an assist coming off the stick of Kevin McMichael (Pompton Plains, N.J.) to give the Saints the lead back to open the second quarter.  Emmanuel scored again, when Jake Jaskolski (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) got one past Anna Maria goalie Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) and the Saints held a 5-3 lead at halftime.

Anna Maria then opened the second half with five-straight scores, including two from Baker and two from Blake Simpson (Warwick, R.I.), to surge ahead, 8-5.

Condry would score his 11th goal of the season unassisted with ten minutes to play and Emmanuel trailed, 8-6.  However, the AMCATS got one more on the board, playing a man down, an went back up by three, 9-6.  Jaskolski scored once more for the Saints, but the final four and half minutes were played scoreless and Anna Maria held on for the 9-7 win.

Emmanuel's freshman goalie Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) was impressive in goal all day for the Saints.  Lauzier made 15 saves, including 9 in the second half for Emmanuel.  Ellis recorded the win, his seventh of the year, for the AMCATS, making 9 stops in the effort.
