Men's Lacrosse 11 Monks 13

Paxton, Mass. – Senior attack Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.)  had 5 goals for the home team but it wasn't enough as the Monks of Saint Joseph's (ME) scored a 13-11 come-from-behind victory over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action today at AMCAT field. With the win the AMCATS drop to 4-4 (1-1 GNAC) while St. Joe's improves to 3-5 (1-0 GNAC).

Along with Saulnier's goals senior Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, RI) added a hat trick and freshman Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass.) had 4 points with two goals. Blake Simpson (Warwick, RI) had a single tally for AMC and goalkeeper Andrew Ellis made 16 saves in the loss.

Leading the Monks was Jonathan Horgan (Hingham, Mass) who had game-high seven points on 5 goals and two assists.  Paul Dolewa (Saco, ME), Andrew Sullivan (Rochester, NH) and Jake Ricciardi (Sharon, Mass.) each had two goals on the day.

Joshua Smith scored two quick goals and Mike Saulnier converted a sweet pass from Jason Baker and AMC had a 3-0 advantage five minutes into the first period. St. Joe's picked up a pair from Horgan to cut the lead to 3-2 but Saulnier scored again to maintain a 4-2 lead after one.

In the second quarter the teams traded three goals apiece, including two from AMC's Peterson and SJC's Horgan and at the half Anna Maria led 7-5.

It was all Saint Joseph's in the third stanza, where they outscored AMC 4-0 and took a 9-7 lead they would never relinquish. Jake Ricciardi scored two of the four goals for the Monks.

Just 1:02 into the fourth period Saulnier scored for the AMCATS to make it a one goal game, but Saint Joseph's answered again going on a 4-1 run to increase the lead to 13-9. Anna Maria had two late goals by Saulnier and Peterson but it wasn't enough making the final 13-11.
