AMCATS Claw Eagles 6-4

Paxton, Mass – Freshman Joshua Smith and senior Blake Simpson each tallied two goals as the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team battled back to defeat Daniel Webster College 6-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action tonight at AMCAT Field.

Joining Smith and Simpson in the scorebook was Chris Summers (goal), Jason Baker (goal, assist) and Brad Peterson (2 assists). Goalkeeper Andrew Ellis had six saves in the win.

Daniel Webster's goalkeeper Tommy Driscoll was stellar in net making 19 saves in the loss. The Eagles had four different scorers: Justin Chiulli, Kurtis Fotheringha, Dan Knupfer and Noah Smith.

Daniel Webster (1-1, 0-1 GNAC) struck first late in the first period, freshman Dan Knupfer (Corfu, NY) scored an unassisted goal as DWC took 1-0 lead. Anna Maria evened up the score less than a minute later when Blake Simpson (Warwick, RI) converted a Jason Baker (Billerica, Mass.) pass.

The Eagles went up 2-1 with a man-up unassisted goal by Justin Chiulli (Saugus, Mass.) at the 11:28 mark of the second period.  Before the end of the period AMC's Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass.) scored the game tying goal, heading into halftime locked at 2-All.

The third period remained scoreless until AMCAT Blake Simpson found the back of the net with just 19 ticks left on the clock.

Anna Maria (4-3, 1-0 GNAC) broke the game open in the fourth stanza scoring three unanswered goals to build a 6-2 lead. Daniel Webster mounted a small comeback scoring two late goals but it wasn't enough and Anna Maria sealed the 6-4 win.
