Tourney-Bound: Football Heads To Delaware Valley For NCAAs

PAXTON, MA : The Anna Maria College football team is headed to the NCAA National Championship Tournament for the first time in school history as announced on Sunday evening by NCAA.com. The AMCATS are headed to Doylestown, Pennsylvania to play Delaware Valley University in the first round of the playoffs this Saturday, November 20th with a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.

The AMCATS destroyed all previous school win totals by going 7-2 this past season, including 6-1 in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC). Anna Maria claimed the conference championship with a 31-7 victory over SUNY Maritime on Saturday in the regular season finale.

The AMCATS are led by senior quarterback Alex Cohen (Plymouth, MA), who threw for 2926 yards and 23 touchdowns in just nine games this season, while rushing for 144 yards and six touchdowns. Cohen rewrote the school's record books this season, breaking the single-season records for yards, touchdowns and completion percentage. Cohen was named ECFC Offensive Player of the Week three times this year while also claiming a New England Football Writer's Association Golden Helmet and a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Anna Maria senior defensive lineman Jude Sampson (Waterbury, CT) leads the AMCAT defense, having set the school's single-season sack record with 8.5 this year to go along with 57 total tackles. Sampson was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week once and was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after turning in a dominating performance against Gallaudet.

Anna Maria sophomore wide receiver Deandre Wallace (Waterbury, CT) established himself as one of the best rookie receivers in the nation, catching 42 passes for 820 yards and nine touchdowns. Wallace was named the ECFC Rookie of the Week three times this season, and just nine games into his collegiate career, he has the third most receiving yards in a season in school history.
