Cohen Named To D3football.com Team of the Week
PAXTON, MA : Senior quarterback Alex Cohen (Plymouth, MA) of the Anna Maria College football team has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for the week ending October 24, 2021 in an announcement by the website on Tuesday.
Cohen led the AMCATS to a 45-32 Homecoming Day win over Dean College on Saturday that saw the team improve to 5-1 for the first time in the history of the program, and the team is currently first in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) standings.
The senior quarterback threw for five touchdowns while rushing for a sixth against the Bulldogs, completing 24-of-40 passes for a career-high 451 yards passing yards and 39 yards rushing. Cohen's passing total shattered the previous single-game total in AMCAT history, that set on November 10, 2012 by former Anna Maria great Santino Simone with 349 passing yards. With three games to go in the season, Cohen is already second in the Anna Maria record books for passing touchdowns in a season with 17 and third in passing yardage with 1865 yards. In just his third year under center for the AMCATS, he is already second all-time in passing yards, passing touchdowns and passing completions for a career.
He is the first AMCAT named to the D3football.com Team of the Week since Tyshawn Anderson was so recognized in 2019, and only the second Anna Maria player recognized ever.
