  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 2-0 | Mass Maritime Buccaneers 0-2

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS wouldn't get on the scoreboard until there were only 28 seconds left on the clock in the first half. Junior running back Kahlil Bowen (Randolph, MA) caught the ball at the 10 and found the end zone on a 26-yard pass from senior quarterback Alex Cohen (Plymouth, MA). A failed kick left the score 14-6 Buccaneers.
  • On the ensuing kickoff, Sam Jakana played the role of hero. After Armstrong Antoine forced the Buccaneers' returner to fumble around the 20-yard line, Jakana picked up the loose ball at the 22 and returned it to the house. Another failed kick set the teams up to go to the locker rooms at 14-12.
  • The AMCATS opened the second half with the ball and proceeded to move the ball down the field. A 14-play drive that went 45 yards and was capped by a 21-yard pass from Cohen to senior wide receiver Justin McMillian that set up a 29-yard field goal from freshman kicker Harvey Lambert (Carmel, IN) to give the AMCATS their first lead of the day.
  • The score remained the same until shortly after the start of the fourth quarter. Freshmen defensive back Marino Vedova (Zurich, Switzerland) and defensive linemen Terrence Jackson combined to set the AMCATS up with a short field. Vedova came unblocked off the edge and sacked the Buccaneer QB, forcing a fumble that was picked up by Jackson at the 12 and returned to the 3-yard line. After a 3-yard loss by Cohen, Cohen found senior running back Vincent Marrone (Wayne, NJ) on the left side of the endzone. On the PAT, Cohen then found sophomore Devin Tolbert for the 2-point conversion.
  • Cohen went 30-43 for 282 yards with two touchdowns.
  • Tolbert led the AMCATS with 10 receptions for 60 yards, McMillian had four for 50 yards, and Bowen had five for 49 yards.
  • 21 AMCATS were credited with at least one tackle and Armstrong led them with five solo tackles and one assisted tackle.
