Alex Cohen Named ECFC Offensive Player Of The Week

KILLINGWORTH, Conn..– Anna Maria College senior quarterback Alex Cohen, was named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Saturday, September 10. On Sunday, Septmeber 11, Cohen was named one of this week’s recipients of the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation Cohen received  ECFC player of the week honors three times in 2021 and received the Gold Helmet award in 2021 for his performance on October 2.
 
Cohen, a native of Plymouth, Mass., and a graduate of Plymouth South High School, led the AMCATS to a 63-48 season opening win over UMass Dartmouth with a school single game record six passing touchdowns and added two rushing touchdowns. The eight touchdowns in a game also set a new school single game record. Cohen threw for 414 yards on 14-for-29 passing with no interceptions. The AMCATS start the season 1-0 for the first time in program history coming off claiming the 2021 ECFC Championship and making the program's first ever trip to the NCAA playoffs. This marks the second time in Cohen's career he has received a Gold Helmet Award. He received the award in 2021 for his performance on October 2.

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Castleton University (Castleton, VT.), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Keystone College (La Plume, PA), and Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, NY).

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
