Football Returns Against Nichols

- PAXTON, MA : After a 672 day absence, the Anna Maria College football team returned to Carposo Field on Saturday afternoon, losing a 27-23 heart-breaker against visiting Nichols College in Paxton, Massachusetts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria senior quarterback Alex Cohen (Plymouth, MA) threw for 270 yards and rushed for 36 more for the AMCATS, throwing for one score.     
  • Nichols junior quarterback Logan Sawyer shook off an early pick-six to throw for 213 yards and three touchdown passes, including the game-winning score with 5:37 to go in the game.
  • Anna Maria freshman defensive back Quincey Sutherland (Hamden, CT) had a thrilling success to his rookie season, recording a pick-six for seventy yards and a touchdown for the first interception of his career.
  • Anna Maria fifth-year senior linebacker Swavaughn Small (Mattapan, MA) led the AMCATS defense with eight tackles, including two for a loss and a pass breakup.
  • Anna Maria fifth year senior running back Johnathan Gomez (Sleepy Hallow, NY) finished with 40 rushing yards on the day.

- Anna Maria will be back on the field next Saturday when they play host to Mass Maritime in a 1:00 p.m. game.
