Nighthawks Score Late Goal to beat AMCATS

PAXTON, Mass – Anna Maria women's soccer hosted the Newbury College Nighthawks Friday afternoon at AMCAT Field. In a game that had 26 total shots, the game came down to one second half shot by the visitors that sealed the 1-0 win for the Nighthawks.

The AMCATS had plenty of chances throughout the game, tallying seven shots in the first half, and adding another four in the second, five of which were on target.  Midfielder Shannon Leblanc (Leominster, Mass) and midfielder Keanna Dunsmore (Georgia, Vermont) each rattle off four shots in the game, two of which were on target for Leblanc. Freshman goalie, Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass) made seven saves in the game for Anna Maria raising her season save percentage to 60%.

Newbury found the back of the net in the 80th minute on a shot by Twalesha Montague. The Nighthawks outshot the AMCATS 15-11 in the game and midfielder Amanda Cardoso was responsible for eight of the shots and had an assist on the Montague goal. Goalie, Nolle Sass made five saves in the game for Newbury.

The loss drops the AMCATS to 0-2 on the young season. AMC will take on Nichols College on Monday evening in Paxton at 5pm.
