THE BASICS:

  • Date: Sunday, April 16, 2023
  • Game 1: Norwich 6, Anna Maria 3 (9 Innings)

  • Records: Norwich University Cadets 3-19 (2-8 GNAC) | Anna Maria AMCATS 10-19 (0-6 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • GAME 1
    • The AMCATS' junior pitcher Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) and the Cadets' Allison Northup engaged in a pitcher's duel in the first game. Through the standard seven innings, both pitchers had allowed only a single run while working out of trouble at various points. The Cadets scored first in the top of the third inning when Maren McGinn led off the inning with a solo home run to right-center field.
    • The AMCATS responded with a one-out rally in the bottom of the frame. Senior first baseman Samantha Dahill (Littleton, MA) kicked things off with a single to center field and advanced to third base when junior catcher Saylor Costa (East Providence, RI) doubled down the right field line. Dahill came around to score on a ground out to third base by graduate student designated player Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) to tie the game at one.
    • The game would stay tied at one into extra innings when with two outs and a runner on third, the Cadets Kennedy White hit a long drive off the right-center field wall to score the go-ahead run but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple by a perfect relay from freshman centerfielder Aurora Van Wormer (Swift Current, SK) to graduate student second baseman Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) to senior third baseman Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT).
    • In the bottom of the inning, Costa started the inning at second base and was moved to third base on a single down the left field line by Liston. Cilley then knotted the score up again with an RBI double down the left-field line.
    • The Cadets broke it open ninth with four runs in the top of the ninth. The AMCATS responded with a single run in the bottom of the inning Costa hit a two-out double to left-center field to score senior left fielder Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) from second.
  • GAME 2
    • The AMCATS were the first ones on the board in game two. Dahill led off the inning with a double to the left-center field wall and then moved to third when Costa singled to center field. Two batters later the AMCATS took some bruises but did some damage. First Cilley was hit by a pitch to fill the bases with AMCATS and then Forget took one for the team forcing Dahill in with the first run of the game. McNamee then singled through the left side to bring home Costa and Madison Marie-Romano became the third AMCAT to wear a pitch forcing in Cilley.
    • The AMCATS extended their lead in the fourth when with one out, Van Wormer hit one just inside the left field line for a single. Two batters later Costa reached when the third baseman's throw pulled the first baseman off the bag and then Liston hit an RBI double into right-center field to score Van Wormer from second.
