Softball Win Streak Snapped by Lancers

WORCESTER, MA: On Monday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball team traveled to Worcester State Lancers for a non-conference doubleheader at Rockwood Park.

THE BASICS:

• Game 1: Anna Maria 1, Worcester State 8
• Game 2: Anna Maria 2, Worcester State 10 (5 Innings)

HIGHLIGHTS

• GAME 1
  • The AMCATS scored their lone run of the first game in the fourth inning on the strength of a two-out rally started by a single from senior left-fielder Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT) that dropped in front of the diving centerfielder. Sophomore centerfielder Rory Hughes (Worcester, MA) then brought McNamee all the way around to score with a double to the wall in left-center field.
• GAME 2
  • The AMCATS again scored all their runs in a single inning, this time putting up a pair in the third inning. Freshman third baseman Paige Stewart (Auburn, MA) led off the inning by reaching on an error by the Lancers' shortstop and then moved to second on a passed ball. Freshman designated player Aine Manning (Carver, MA) was then hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Two batters later junior catcher Saylor Costa cashed in both runners with a two-RBI double.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Thursday when they will host the Pride of Regis College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at the AMCATS softball field located near the Fuller Activities Center. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
