Anna Maria College Softball Captains Announced

PAXTON, MA- Today, head softball coach Larry Sasso announced this Spring's team captains.

The AMCAT Softball team will be led by graduate students, Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central HS), Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA, Moses Brown HS), Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA, Dracut HS), and senior, Saylor Costa (Providence, RI, St. Raphael Academy).

"We are extremely excited to have these four leaders as our captains for this season.  These ladies have been modeling the way since day one, both in the classroom and on the field.  "They are industrious, motivated, they stick together, and are selfless, said Coach Sasso." "They have been "all in" since arriving on this campus this fall, I am so proud of them, I am honored to have them represent our team, Sasso said."  "With their leadership and all the hard work our team has put in these past few weeks, I am convinced the best is yet to come!"

Ashley Garcia (Ash) has been a captain since the end of her freshman season, she is the heart and soul of our team.  Ashley was our first recruit to say yes six years ago when this coaching staff stepped in.  She has set the bar high, and has attracted many great players to this team.  She has played just about every position on the field.  She is a gold glover at first base and a fierce power hitter.  Ashley has worked hard in the off-season to be back healthy and strong.  I am convinced this year will be her best!

Sabrina Liston (Sab) was our most valuable player, she was one of the top players in the conference in both pitching and hitting statistics last season!  Sab has come back looking better than ever with her pitching and hitting.  She has been a tremendous hitter for us in the past, she has made some small adjustments and I see her hitting with more power this year, this could be a magical season for her.  There are many talented players in this conference, I believe Sab is one of the best, top pitcher, and among the best hitters in the GNAC.

Michelle Cilley (Mo) is the type of softball player that every coach wants on their team!  She can do it all, catcher, infield, outfield, she can play any position on the field!  Mo is one of our most talented middle-infielders.  You will find most of the time playing second base, with Ash at first, the right side of our infield will be solid.  As a leadoff hitter she can do it all, she can hit, get on base, steal, and make pitchers work.  When the pitching against us gets tough, Mo is at her best, she too has worked hard, this will be a great year for her!

Saylor Costa (Say) received our team leadership award last year, she competes hard every day, and she enjoys every moment.  Say is our catcher, if it were up to her she would catch every inning of the season.  She is a top catcher in the conference both defensively and with the bat.  She works extremely well with our pitchers to keep batters off balance.  Say brings it to the field every day, energy, passion, and spirit!  Say understands the game, the moment, and makes everyone around her better, even the coaches!

The Anna Maria College Softball team will be opening their season on March 4, 2023, playing Swarthmore College in Ft. Myers, Florida. The AMCATS will play their home opener on Friday, April 2nd against Fisher College.
