Softball Drop Pair on Road to Hawks

NEWPORT, RI: On Sunday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball team traveled to faceoff with the Roger Williams University Hawks in a non-conference matchup at Toppa Field at Freebody Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

• GAME 1
  • In the first game, the AMCATS' late efforts to get back into the game fell short. Trailing 5-0 going into the top of the sixth inning, the AMCATS put their first run on the board. Graduate student designated player Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) reached on an error by the second baseman. Freshman Paige Stewart (Auburn, MA) came on as a pinch runner. A pair of groundouts by graduate student second baseman Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) and freshman shortstop Madison-Marie Romano (Lebanon, ME) moved Stewart around to third. She then came around to score on a passed ball.
  • The AMCATS added on a second run in the top of the seventh when graduate student first baseman Ashely Garcia (Cornwall, NY) led off with a triple down the left field line. Garcia then came around to score on another passed ball to make the score 5-2 but they would get no closer.
• GAME 2
  • The AMCATS loan run in the second game also involved a triple from Garcia when her three-base hit to right scored Romano who had hit a two-out double to left-center in front of her.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Tuesday when they begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action and travel to Franklin, MA to meet the Dean College Bulldogs at the Longley Athletic Complex for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
