Monks Take Two from Softball

STANDISH, ME: On Friday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball team traveled for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against the St. Joseph's College Monks with the Dean College Bulldogs in a doubleheader at Richard W. Bailey Field.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, March 31, 2023
  • Game 1: Anna Maria 0, St. Joe's College 3
  • Game 2: Anna Maria 1, St. Joe's College 9 (6 Innings)
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 3-12 (0-2 GNAC) | St. Joe's College Monks 8-8 (2-0 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • GAME 1
    • In the first game, the AMCATS threatened early but were unable to force a run across. Senior first baseman Samantha Dahill (Littleton, MA) led off with a single to left and was followed by an infield single by junior catcher Saylor Costa (East Providence, RI), and another single to left by graduate student designated player Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA). Monks' pitcher Meredith Pence rallied back to strike out the next two batters and induced a ground out to the first baseman to end the threat.
    • The AMCATS only managed two more hits, a pinch-hit infield single by freshman Aine Manning (Carver, MA) in the sixth and a single to center by Costa in the seventh.
    • Junior pitcher Eden Forget took the loss despite allowing only two runs on five hits over five innings. The loss dropped her record to 2-5.
  • GAME 2
    • The AMCATS were the first ones on the board in game two. Dahill led off the game by forcing a walk but was thrown out trying to score on a double to center by Costa. Costa moved to third on the relay home and then came around to score on a double to left field by Liston.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Sunday when they will host NAIA opponent Fisher College for a non-conference doubleheader at Normand R. Marois Field on the campus of Assumption College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
