Softball Opens Season by Dropping Two to Swarthmore

FT. MYERS, FL: On Saturday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball opened their 2023 season with a non-conference doubleheader against Swarthmore College at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

THE BASICS:

• Date: Saturday, March 4, 2023
• Game 1: Swarthmore 14, Anna Maria 2
• Game 2: Anna Maria 10, Swarthmore 11
• Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 0-2 | Swarthmore Garnet 2-0

HIGHLIGHTS

• GAME 1:
  • The AMCATS scored both of their runs in the first game in the third inning. With one out, Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) hit a double and moved to third on a single by Saylor Costa (East Providence, RI). Both Cilley and Costa would later score on a single from Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA).
• GAME 2:
  • The AMCATS were first on the board in the top of the first. Costa walked, another walk to Rory Hughes (Worcester, MA) and a wild pitch moved her to third and she scored on a fielder's choice by Eden Forget.
  • The big inning of the day for the AMCATS was the second inning when they scored nine runs and sent 14 batters to the plate. The AMCATS exhibited their patience working nine walks including two each for Ashely Garcia (Cornwall, NY) and Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT). The big hits in the inning were an RBI single by Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) and a double by Madison-Marie Romano (Lebanon, ME)
