AMCATS Drop Season Finale at JWU

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team defeated Anna Maria, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats had control of the first half, holding a 9-0 lead in shots including a penalty shot by Drew Lightfoot (Philadelphia, Pa.) that was saved by AMCAT netminder Andrew Dahl.  JWU also had four corner kicks in the first half.

JWU connected on the lone goal of the game at the 73:19 mark. Junior Kyle Metz (St. James, N.Y.) sent a corner kick across the box that deflected off a player and directly to Xavier Carty (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.), who connected with a shot to the back of the net.  The Wildcats had a chance moments later when a shot by Carty hit the post. The AMCATS had their best chance to tie with 13 minutes left as Gregory Cory had a shot on net that was pushed away by junior Ryan Dzierzawski (Oakland, Mich.) to secure the 1-0 victory.

Dzierzawski made four saves in the win for the Wildcats while Dahl had seven stops in net for Anna Maria.

Johnson & Wales improves to 12-1-4 overall and 5-1-3 in the GNAC while the AMCATS complete their season at 3-11-1 and 0-9 in conference play.
