AMCATS Nipped by Falcons, 1-0

Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) scored the game winning goal in the 74th minute to lift the Albertus Magnus men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon during the College's annual Fall Fest celebration.

Alphonse Buccitti (West Haven, Conn.) was able to reach Ross Suleski (Amesbury, Conn.) on a throw-in late in the contest.  Suleski flicked the ball on a header towards the net where he found the foot of Garcia for the rookie's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Falcons, now 5-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in league play, outshot the AMCATS 22-9, including a 12-4 clip in the second half.  Suleski led the Falcons with six shots, while five of those attempts were on goal.

Senior Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) tallied four saves in the shutout, while Anna Maria's Andrew Dahl recorded eight stops in net.

The Falcons also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Buccitti was close to scoring his first goal of the season as he drilled a shot in the 11th minute but Dahl made a big save for the AMCATS.

Five minutes later, Piroscafo came up with a big save as Deven Plant reached up for a header which was batted out of the way by Piroscafo.

Albertus returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in a 3:30 p.m. contest on the turf field.  Anna Maria, now 3-10-1, 0-8 in GNAC play, returns to action on Wednesday when the AMCATS host Norwich at 4:00 p.m.
