Buccaneers Clip Anna Maria in Men’s Soccer

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Dahl (Marlton, NJ) made six saves but Massachusetts Maritime Academy's Killian Simpson (Nahant, Mass.) netted a goal with 30 seconds left in the first half as the Buccaneers edge the AMCATS, 3-0 in Thursday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game.

With the loss the Anna Maria moves to 3-3-1 on the season, while Massachusetts Maritime remains unbeaten at 5-0-1.

MMA's Simpson converted a pass from teammate Dillon Jones (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) at the 49:30 mark of the first half to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

The AMCATS best scoring chance of the first half was called back for an offside run, Jamison Crowley (Southington, CT) had found the back of the net off a beautiful cross from Justin Hyland (Leicester, Mass.) but the goal was nulled by the Anna Maria infraction.

It remained a 1-0 game until the 84th minute, when Nick Parker (Plymouth, Mass.) converted a penalty kick and just a minute later Dillon Jones potted his first goal of the season.

Mass. Maritime held the edge in shots at 15-11, while Anna Maria was awarded more corner kicks (5-3). Freshman Thomas Funkhauser (Plymouth, Mass.)  made seven saves for his second win of the season.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday September 28th when they host Mount Ida College  at noon in GNAC action.
