King, Foti and Clancy Have a Record Day in 3-0 Win over Becker

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team set two new single-match program records in their 3-0 non-conference win against Becker on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the AMCATS improve to 3-5 on the season, while Becker falls to 4-3.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17.

RECORD SETTING DAY

Sophomore Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) and junior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, Mass.) both broke the program record for kills in a three-set match—the previous record of 14 kills was set in 2009 by Leah Murphy. King finished with 19 kills, while Foti was right behind her with 18.

Additionally, freshman setter Tierney Clancy (Meriden, Conn.) shattered the record for assists in a three-set match with 44 assists. The previous record of 27 was set on two separate occasions by Samantha Parker '16.

HOW IT HAPPENED

King hit at an impressive .452 efficiency and finished with a double-double of 19 kills and 13 digs to lead the AMCATS to victory. The early points of the first set were close until senior Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) served seven-straight points to put the AMCATS up 23-15.

The second set was within four points the entire way, and Becker trailed by just two at 20-18 until Foti posted three kills in-a-row to open a 24-19 gap.

Anna Maria dominated the third set and held a 20-14 lead midway through. Becker rallied to bring it within four at 23-17, but the AMCATS won on back-to-back Becker errors.

AMCAT LEADERS

Defensively, the AMCATS received a match-high 17 digs from freshman Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.). Carrero also contributed with 13 digs.

The AMCAT offense also saw five kills from sophomore Sarah Lathrop (Waterford, Conn.).

BECKER LEADERS

Becker was led by Cheyenne Melanson with five kills. Morgan Gould dished out eight assists and posted a team-high 10 digs. Marissa Turner also tallied a match-high six blocks. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS travel to Daniel Webster on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. match before hosting a tri-match on Saturday.
