Zenevitch Steps Down, Denver Elevated to Head Coach of AMCAT Field Hockey Team

PAXTON, Mass.—Anna Maria College field hockey coach Sharon Zenevitch has announced her departure from the AMCAT Field sidelines and is handing the reins of the program over to assistant coach Brooke Denver, effective immediately.

"Brooke is a seamless transition for the Anna Maria field hockey team," said Laura Habacker, Director of Athletics. "She has learned from the best and has witnessed the transformation of the program firsthand. The team will be in great hands with Brooke at the helm."

A 2013 graduate of Anna Maria, Denver was a four-year member of the AMCAT field hockey program. During her time on the field, Anna Maria appeared in back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship games. The team won their first championship title during Denver's senior year and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.

Since her graduation, Denver has transitioned to the AMCAT sidelines, serving as an assistant coach under Zenevitch for the past three seasons. She also serves as Anna Maria's Assistant Director of Student Success.

"I am excited and honored to be the next field hockey coach at Anna Maria College," said Denver. "As a graduate of the school and the program, I look forward to continuing the success and working with these talented student-athletes."

Denver inherits a program that advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship game in 2014 and the GNAC semifinals this season, along with back-to-back ECAC New England tournament appearances.

Zenevitch leaves behind nearly three decades of commitment to Anna Maria. She completed her first season of coaching in 1988-89 for both the field hockey and softball programs. She coached for four seasons before stepping down.

She returned in 2000 to reinstate the Anna Maria field hockey program, which did not field a team for four seasons between 1995 and 1999. After two winless seasons in 2000 and 2001, Zenevitch led the team to 10 wins in 2002. She stepped down again following a 9-10 record in 2003.

Zenevitch returned to the AMCAT sidelines for a third time in 2011, taking over a team that finished 2-16 in 2010 and leading them to eight victories a season later. Following the eight wins in 2011, she guided the AMCATS to four-straight winning seasons in the last four years and earned NECC or GNAC Coach of the Year honors in four out of five years.

She amassed 249 career victories at Anna Maria, including 101 on the field hockey field and 148 on the softball diamond. While previously at Anna Maria, Zenevitch won three Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball titles, a pair of Massachusetts Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (MAIAW) softball championships and was named CCC Field Hockey Coach of the Year (2000).

"She has brought our program to a level of unprecedented success while demonstrating a high level of character on and off the field. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors."
