Six AMCATS named to Field Hockey All-Conference, Breen Named Goalie of the Year

WINTHROP, Mass.— Six Anna Maria College field hockey players were named to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference teams as announced by the league office on Tuesday, while head coach Sharon Zenevitch was tabbed the GNAC Co-Coach of the Year.

With six of her players being honored by the GNAC, head coach Sharon Zenevitch was named the Co-Coach of the Year following a winning season with records of 13-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.  Zenevitch tallied her 100th career win this season in a 3-2 victory over Johnson & Wales University (RI).

Finding spots on the GNAC All-Conference First Team are Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine), Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.), Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) and Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H), while Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) and Shelby Looney (Leicester, Mass.) have both earned spots on the GNAC All-Conference Second Team.

Along with her First Team selection, Breen was named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the year for her outstanding performance in net this season. She tallied a career high 163 saves this season while posting a .799 save percentage. She recorded six double-digit save games including a season high 23 saves in a 4-3 double overtime victory over Bridgewater State University (10/1) and finished the season with four shutouts and a 12-7 record.

Dalbec, a senior forward, contributed greatly to the AMCATS success as she posted 14 goals and 17 assists for a total of 45 points on the season. She tallied three game winners this season in victories over Colby-Sawyer, Lasell and Johnson & Wales (RI). She was named the GNAC Player of the Week once this season and led the team and conference in assists and points.

Sophomore Nicole Denver also earned herself a spot on the GNAC All-Conference First Team as a forward. Denver led the AMCATS in goals this season with 15 and also tallied an assist bringing her to a career high 31 points. Of her 15 goals, Denver recorded three game winners in victories over Becker (9/3) and Mount Ida (9/17) and a double overtime win at home over Bridgewater State (10/1). Denver was ranked third in the league for total number of goals and was once named the GNAC player of the week this season.

Lapierre also found a spot as a First Team All-Conference selection for the 2015 season. As a senior, Lapierre tallied 37 points from 12 goals and 13 assists. She recorded game winning goals in AMCAT victories over New England College (9/12), Nichols College (10/8) and Rivier University (10/10). She was ranked second in the GANC for total number of assists and third for total points this season.  Lapierre was given GNAC weekly honors twice this season as she was named Player of the Week in week three and week six.

Finding a spot on the GNAC All-Conference Second Team is junior Kaitlyn Moran. Moran tallied 10 goals and 10 assists for the AMCATS this season for a career high 30 points. She posted two game winning goals in victories over Elms College (9/15) and a 3-2 double overtime victory over Clark University (9/22). Moran was a strong contributor to the AMCAT midfield and placed fourth in the GNAC for total assists this season.

As a defender, senior Looney earned a Second Team All-Conference spot this season. Looney finished the season with 11 defensive saves earning herself a top-10 NCAA Division III National ranking. Looney led the AMCATS in defensive saves earning herself a spot in the AMCAT Field Hockey record books.

The AMCATS finished the season in the GNAC Tournament Semi-Final game as they dropped a 2-1 final to Saint Joseph's College (Me.). They concluded the season with an overall record of 13-7 and 4-2 in conference play.
