Curry knocks off Anna Maria, 63-44

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College defeated visiting Anna Maria College, 63-44, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women's basketball action Thursday night in Milton. The Colonels improved to 12-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while the Amcats fell to 6-12 overall and 0-6 in TCCC action.

With 12:34 remaining in the first period, Curry took a lead (9-7) it would never surrender after a layup by sophomore forward Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT). The Colonels slowly built their lead, and took a 29-23 advantage at the break.

Anna Maria pulled within four (38-34) after a jumper by junior guard Samantha Ashton (Worcester, MA) with 11:22 remaining in regulation, but Curry went on to score 25 of the game's final 35 points to secure the victory.

Curry was led by senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) with a game-high 17 points. Freshman guard Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, MA) added 14, while Scrubb contributed 11. Senior forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME) led the Colonels on the glass with a game-high 11 boards.

Ashton racked up a double-double with team highs in points (16) and rebounds (10), while sophomore guard Alison McCarthy (Lynn, MA) chipped in 10 points.

Both teams resume play on the road on Saturday, with Curry visiting Nichols (12:00 p.m.) and Anna Maria traveling to Eastern Nazarene (1:00 p.m.).
