Elms Blazes Past Anna Maria in Baseball, 5-0

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Elms College baseball team needed just one inning to down the AMCATS of Anna Maria on Wednesday afternoon, as the Blazers scored all five of their runs in the top of the fourth en route to the 5-0 shutout non-conference victory at Granger Field on the campus of Clark University.

The win boosts the Blazers to 16-15 on the season, while Anna Maria concludes the 2015 campaign at 7-21.

Stephen Harrison (Southbury, Conn.) opened the fourth inning with a single through the left side and was moved to second on a single by Kevin Dwire (Ellington, Conn.). Nolan Medeiros (Taunton, Mass.) then walked to load the bases for Elms. A single to left field by Brian Hungerford (New Preston, Conn.) scored Harrison and Dwire for the first two runs of that game.

Following a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third, Brady Forrest (Hampden, Mass.) reached on a throwing error, which allowed Medeiros to score the Blazer's third run. A wild pitch would score Hungerford for the fourth run, and a single by Jordan Zima (Berlin, Conn.) scored Forrest for the team's fifth score.

Zima had an impressive day at the plate for Elms, as he batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. The Blazers tallied 10 hits in total; Tim Gelzinis (North Dighton, Mass.) chipped in with two on the day.

Sean Sinnot (Granby, Conn.) earned the start on the mound but was pulled after three innings, allowing Andrew Sadowski (Northampton, Mass.) to earn the win in two innings of work. Brian Langdon (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Ty Emet (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Bryan Leonard (Vernon, Conn.) all pitched to aid in the shutout.

Anna Maria third baseman Nate Gray (Kingston, N.Y.) and senior Corey Andrade (Mashpee, Mass.) both hit 2-for-4 on the day. Andrade rocked a ninth-inning double with no outs, but the AMCATS were unable to push him across the plate.

Freshman Tanner Jakola (Leominster, Mass.) took the loss on the mound, scattering eight hits, two earned runs and a walk in four innings of work, while striking out two. Matthew Leahey (Rutland, Mass.) pitched four innings of relief and struck out seven.
