Baseball Falls to Aurora in Second Day of Action

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—The Anna Maria College baseball team suffered an 11-0 loss to Aurora University in day two of action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

With today's loss, the AMCATS fall to 1-2 on the season.

The AMCATS totaled nine hits in the game but were unable to string any together for runs. Aurora wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as a single by Dillon Popovich in the bottom of the first inning scored one run.

Anna Maria held Aurora to that lone run until the fourth inning, when Aurora used five hits to score five runs. The bottom of the sixth was also productive for Aurora, as they added five more runs on five hits and two errors.

Freshman Nate Frederick (Worcester, Mass.) took the loss in on the mound for Anna Maria, sacrificing five hits, five earned runs and four walks in three innings of action. Sophomore Zach Parker (Manchester, N.H.) took control from there and threw 2.1 innings, giving up two earned runs and a walk while striking out one.

Aurora pitcher Tyler Finlay earned the win, giving up seven hits while striking out eight. He was relieved by Jacob Stockman, who gave up two hits and a walk in one inning of action.

Frederick, senior David Julian (Sterling, Mass.), senior Corey Andrade (Mashpee, Mass.), and freshman Nate Gray (Kingston, N.Y.) all had two hits each for Anna Maria.

The AMCATS are idle tomorrow and return to action on Wednesday for a single game against Neumann at 2:30 p.m. at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.
