Men's Basketball Bested by JWU, 84-53

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's basketball team suffered an 84-53 loss to the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday evening at the Fuller Activities Center.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 12-9 overall and 10-4 in GNAC play, while the win boosts the Wildcats to 18-4 overall and 13-2 in league competition.

The AMCATS were paced by freshman Youssef Fodaile (Worcester, Mass.) with a team-high 12 points. Junior Tyler Delorey (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in with nine points, while senior Michael Gorman (Methuen, Mass.) added seven.

Johnson & Wales saw 22 points from junior Tom Garrick (Seekonk, Mass.) and 21 points from senior Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, N.Y.). Junior Robert Lewis (Providence, R.I.) scored nine points and tallied a game-high eight rebounds.

The Wildcats opened the game with an 8-0 run and never looked back, using the first four minutes to build a double-digit lead. JWU did not allow the AMCATS to score a field goal for a six-minute stretch midway through the first half, while using that time to build a 21-point advantage at 31-10. The AMCATS would trail by 18 at half time, 43-25.

Johnson & Wales totaled a 54.8 percent (17-31) effort from field goal range in the first half, while holding Anna Maria to just 31 percent (9-29). The AMCATS hit just one more field goal in the second half (10-28), while the Wildcats added 13 field goals in 28 attempts.

Overall, Anna Maria shot at 33.3 percent (19-57), while Johnson & Wales shot at 50.8 percent (30-59).

The Wildcats held scoring advantages in points in the paint (42-22), points off turnovers (24-11), second-chance points (18-4), and fast-break points (12-6). Anna Maria's bench held a 26-18 advantage over JWU's bench.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. home game against Emmanuel. The Wildcats will travel to Albertus Magnus for a 3:00 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
