Men's Basketball Edged in Final Minutes by Framingham State; Post Second-Place Finish in Conn. College Tourney

NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Framingham State University men's basketball team put together a 10-0 run in the final five minutes of regulation to pull away from a talented Anna Maria College team to win the Coaches versus Cancer Tip-Off Tournament at Connecticut College with a 62-55 triumph Sunday night in Luce Field House.

Junior guard Tim McCarthy buried a three-ball with 50 seconds left that put the game away. McCarthy poured in a team-best 14 points to go with six rebounds for the Rams.  Sophomore Daniel Gould (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with nine points, four assists and three rebounds in the triumph.

Anna Maria College junior Patrick Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) poured in a game-high 19 points in the setback, shooting 8-for-14 from the field and 3-for-6 from long distance. Senior Hugh Daye (Worcester, Mass.) finished with 14 points in the contest.

In the third place game, the host Camels of Connecticut College upended Southern Maine in a 75-60 victory. Connecticut College dominated the backboards, enjoying a 46-to-32 rebounding advantage in the victory.

Rookie guard Lee Messier (Narragansett, R.I.) exploded with 20 points and five assists to lead the hosts. The Ocean State standout converted 6-of-10 threes in the victory. Sophomore Zuri Pavlin (New York, N.Y.) posted his second consecutive double-double of the weekend, finishing with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Isaiah Robinson (Lynn, Mass.) contributed with11 points and eight rebounds while junior captain Bo McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) reached double digits with 10 points.

The Huskies of Southern Maine were paced by Zach Leal's (York, Maine) 19 points.  Fred Knight (Hampden, Maine) netted 11 points while adding five boards in the post.

At the conclusion of the tournament an All-Tournament Team was selected.  Tim McCarthy and Daniel Gould represented Framingham State University on the squad. Anna Maria College junior Bradanese and Southern Maine's Zach Leal were joined by Connecticut College student-athletes Zuri Pavlin and Lee Messier on the squad.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program unites the American Cancer Society with our coaches in the fight against cancer. Donations made at this weekend's games will go directly to the lifesaving efforts of the American Cancer Society to fund research, provide free programs for people with cancer and their caregivers, advocate for better cancer screenings and treatment, and provide education and information for all those who seek it.
