Fodaile Nets 15 Points as AMCATS Down Mustangs, 74-60

NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College freshman guard Jayson Clark (Austin, Texas) poured in a game-high 17 points, including shooting 4-7 from behind the three-point line, but the Mustangs could not run down visiting Anna Maria College, who left Mount Ida Athletic Center with a 74-60 victory Thursday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball.

Anna Maria improves to 2-2 in the GNAC (4-7 overall), while Mount Ida is still looking for their first GNAC win of the season in five games (1-10).

The visitors ran out to a 7-0 lead, including five quick points by Kyle McKissick (Charlton, Mass.), whose eleven points and eleven rebounds helped the AMCATS to a 43-27 edge on the boards.

Mount Ida found their legs and cut the deficit to 11-6, but Youssef Fodaile (Worcester, Mass.), who led the AMCATS with 15 points and added eight rebounds, made a pair of free-throws and a layup to put his team up by double-digits for the first time. Fodaile scored 11 of his points in the first half, and a sequence at 6:39 saw him convert a layup, then steal a pass and finish the fast break with a dunk to give Anna Maria their largest lead of the half up to that point, 31-15.

After a Michael Gorman (Methuen, Mass.) three-pointer extended the lead to seventeen points, Mount Ida ended the half with a nice run. Clark hit his first three-pointer of the game with 1:37 left in the half, and then ended the half with a layup to pull Mount Ida back to within ten points, 36-26.

Freshman John Oliver (North Babylon, N.Y.) opened the second half with a layup to get Mount Ida back to single digits, but eight points was the closest they would get on several occasions.

Back to back three-point shots, one by Tyler Delorey (Worcester, Mass.), who scored 14 points in the game for Anna Maria, gave the visitors a 46-34 lead with 14:16 to play, and it stayed in double-digits for the rest of the night.

Clark was 3-4 from downtown and had ten points in the second half and senior Treace Macklin (Brockton, Mass.) scored nine of his eleven points after the break, but Delorey matched Clark's production and Quantez Franklin (South Yarmouth, Mass.) scored eight of his fourteen points in the final twenty minutes.

Mount Ida managed just six assists in the game, only one of them in the first half, while Gorman handed out six assists himself to lead the AMCATS.

Mustang freshman Patrick McKearney (Avon, Conn.) added seven points and eight rebounds in the loss, and Ethan Dujon (Warwick, R.I.) scored nine points and had two assists and three steals and Kevin Conner (Mansfield, Mass.) added seven points of his own.

Senior Corey Pryor (Northbridge, Mass.) hit a pair of three-pointers for Anna Maria, scoring seven points in the game and collecting two steals and two caroms.

Mount Ida hits the court again on Saturday afternoon for another conference matchup when they host Norwich at 3:00 pm, the second half of a double dip between the Mustangs and the Cadets.

Anna Maria travels back to the Boston area on Saturday to face GNAC foe Emmanuel at 1:00 pm.
