Men's Basketball Marches Past Norwich, 82-60

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's basketball team saw 12 different players score en route to an 82-60 win against the Cadets of Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Fuller Activities Center.

The win snaps a four-game winless streak for the AMCATS, who improve to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in GNAC play. The loss drops the Cadets to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in league action.

Anna Maria saw a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds from graduate student Quantez Franklin (South Yarmouth, Mass.). Junior Patrick Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with 15 points, while senior Corey Pryor (Whitinisville, Mass.) added 10 points off the bench.

Senior Michael Gorman (Methuen, Mass.) dished out a game-high eight assists.

The Cadets received a team-best 12 points off the bench from freshman Joe Bertrand (Saugus, Mass.). Classmate Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, Netherlands) chipped in with 10 points.

Anna Maria scored on the opening possession and never trailed. A layup by Norwich's Kevin Ross (Ontario, Calif.) briefly tied the score at 8-8, but Anna Maria responded with a 16-4 run to take a 12-point lead with 8:52 still to play in the half. The AMCATS carried a 25-point lead into halftime, 41-26.

The AMCATS hit an impressive 58.1 percent (18-31) in the first half and added a 48.4 percent (15-31) effort in the second half to average a 53.2 percent field goal percentage over the course of the game. The team also shot 9-for-19 (47.4 percent) from three-point range. The team held their largest lead, 33 points, with 7:54 left in the second half.

Anna Maria held advantages in all five scoring categories: points in the paint (40-16), points off turnovers (28-15), second-chance points (11-3), fast break points (12-6), and bench points (33-28).

Norwich shot 43.8 percent from the floor (21-48) over the course of the game but hit just 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from three-point range.

The AMCATS are back in action on Thursday, as they travel to Mount Ida for a 6:00 p.m. GNAC matchup. The Cadets will host Albertus Magnus on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
