Women’s Lax Rally Comes Up Short At Elms

CHICOPEE, MA: The Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team lost 14-8 at Elms College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Elms stormed out of the gate, taking a 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and led by as many as six as they went into halftime leading 7-2.
  • In the third quarter, the AMCATS came charging back, led by Anna Maria senior midfielder Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, MA). The visitors scored five goals in the period and three-straight at one point, pulling to within two off a man-up shot from senior midfielder Riley Cote (Tewksbury, MA) with 6:55 to go. The score was 9-7 Elms heading into the final stanza.
  • The Blazers finished strong in the fourth, outscoring the AMCATS, 5-1 with junior midfielder Taylor Borla (Southington, CT) and senior attacker Elese Ciarcia (Glastonbury, CT) each scoring a pair of goals apiece to ice it.
  • Rufo finished with four goals on the day with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Rufo is now the third all-time leading goal-scorer in the history of the program with 64 career goals.
  • Anna Maria sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Burt (Plymouth, MA) overcame a slow start to finish with 13 saves on the day,
  • Borla led Elms with four goals and seven ground balls, while Ciarcia, sophomore attacker Elise Paier (West Springfield, MA) and junior midfielder Anna-Elise Pikul (Belchertown, MA) both had hat tricks.
  • Anna Maria sophomore midfielder Raegan Hachey (Winthrop, ME) posted two goals and three ground balls on the day.
  • Elms senior goalkeeper Emma Walsh (Dracut, MA) tallied 14 stops on the day to pick-up the win.

UP NEXT:
Anna Maria will be back on the field on Tuesday evening when they travel to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a 6:00 p.m. game.
