Women's Lacrosse Fall to Blue Jays In A Heartbreaker

WEST HARTFORD, CT: The Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team lost 11-10 in overtime on Tuesday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at St. Joseph University.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS came within 37 seconds of earning their third win of the season. With just over two minutes to play senior midfielder Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, MA) put the AMCATS up 10-9 for her 26th of the season with an assist from sophomore midfielder Olivia Stump (Southington, CT).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Junior attacker Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, ME) recorded her second consecutive hat trick of the year, and the third of her career, on five shots. She also had two ground balls and a turnover caused.
  • Rufo (Pittsfield, MA) joined Yokabaskas in the hattrick club with her fifth of the season. She also was credited with five ground balls and two assists.
  • Sophomore midfielder Raegan Hachey (Winthrop, ME) had three points on two goals and an assist. Hachey now has scored in five straight games.
  • Senior attacker Jenna Grande (Whitman, MA) scored her first collegiate goal on a free position shot in the second quarter.
  • A pair of Riley's were good for a pair of goals. Senior midfielder Riley Cote (Tewksbury, MA) and freshman midfielder Riley Michaud (Clinton, MA) each found the back of the net. Cote opened the scoring for the AMCATS in the first period, while Michaud scored the only goal by either team in the third quarter on a man-up opportunity.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Sheehan (Medford, MA) had nine saves and recorded a team-high six ground balls.
  • Ana Nogueira sent the hosts home victorious when she charged from the right side of the net and threw the ball towards the net as the clock expired.

UP NEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Saturday, April 9th when they will play host to Johnson & Wales for a 2 pm game at Caparso Field.
