Rufo’s Five Goals Not Enough As Women’s Lax Falls To Lasell

Paxton, MA: The Anna Maria College women's lacrosse fell to the Lasell University Lasers this evening in Great North East Athletic Conference. Behind five first half goals from senior midfielder Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, MA) to take an 8-5 lead with just under a minute to play in the first half. The Lasers came on in the second half and left with a 14-10 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The AMCATS broke out early with a 4-0 lead. Rufo broke the seal on the scoreboard with her first goal a bit over two minutes into the game. Freshman midfielder Riley Michaud (Clinton, MA) the doubled the lead with another goal only 20 seconds later. Rufo found the back of the net again with before five minute had expired from the clock. Barely half way through the period the senior midfielder Riley Cote (Tewksbury, MA) extended the lead to 4-0 before the lasers found the net for the first time.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Rufo's five goals brought her season total to 14 and moved her into a tie for fourth place in the GNAC in goals at press time. Her 17 points also ranks fifth.
  • Michaud had two goals and two assists for four points while sophomore midfielder Raegan Hachey (Winthrop, ME) had two goals and an assist for three points.
  • Sophomore midfielder Abriana Morgan (Merrimack, NH) and sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Burt (Plymouth, MA) each had six ground balls to lead the AMCATS while
  • Senior attacker Dawnisha Franklin (Amite, LA) lead all players with five caused turnovers while contributing five groundballs.
  • Sophia Gadsen (Randolph, MA) found the back of the net four times for the Lasers while Sophie Fistori (Dartmouth, MA) and Teresa Kessner (Brentwood, NY) each had a hat trick.
  • Devin Zambruno (Plympton, MA) picked up her first win of the season, improving her record to 1-2.

 

UPNEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Saturday, March 19th when they will travel to Simmons College for a 1pm start.
